Baseball Team Goes 1 and 2 During Mauston Trip; At Home Thursday and Friday
The Cumberland Beavers opened up the 2025 Baseball Season with three games at the Woodside Complex in Mauston last Friday and Saturday. The Beavers dropped games to Bloomer and Somerset, while defeating Poynette 8 to 6 and now prepare to open up the HON schedule this week against Ashland at Islander Park on Thursday followed by a non-conference home contest against Chippewa Falls McDonell on Friday, both starting at 5:00 pm.
The weekend began with a 10-0 loss to Somerset last Friday. Uriah Johnson took the pitching loss with relief from Sloan McCreary. Offensively, the Beavers could not manage a hit in the game due to the work of Somerset pitcher Mason Schmidt, who struck out 12 Beaver hitters.
The Beavers battled back with an 8-6 victory over Poynette Friday night.
Troy Majewski took the pitching victory for Coach John Peterson with six strong innings of work, giving up only one earned run, while striking out three. Uriah Johnson had two hits for the Beavers, while driving in two runs. Landon Wickstrom added a double and Parker Peterson had three runs-batted-in.
The weekend finished with a 12-2 loss to Bloomer. Landon Wickstrom took the pitching loss with Parker Peterson also seeing time on the mound. Peterson added a double to the offensive attack as six different Beaver hitters had safeties in the game. The Beavers defense had three errors in the contest.
“It was good to get on a field, but now we have to get back to work and learn from our time in Mauston,” concluded Coach Peterson.
