Icemen’s Season Comes to an End in Tournament Play
The Northwest Icemen played a solid game for much of last Friday evening, but ran into a better Hayward Hurricane squad as a 4-2 WIAA Tournament loss ended the Icemen’s season. The team finishes with a final record of 5 and 20. Hayward, meanwhile, moved on to play Rice Lake in a second-round D2 game.
The Icemen played well defensively for much of the night, but three Hayward goals in period three, two on the power play, were too much to overcome.
The icemen scores came from Noah Nelson and Ethan Peterson, but the team was only able to muster 11 shots on net in the game. Cumberland’s Brody Chartraw completed his career with the loss, while Beavers Freshman Gavin Lehmann had a promising first year as he looks to become a team cornerstone for the next three years.
