Tommy Dettinger Heads to State Cross Country
Cumberland Junior Tommy Dettinger qualified the State Cross Country Meet in Wisconsin Rapids this Saturday, by placing third at the D3 Sectional Meet in Solon Springs last Saturday. Dettinger will join the rest of the State field at Ridges Golf Course for the D3 run, which will take place around 2:00 pm.
Dettinger ran a very solid 16:35 to come in 34 seconds behind Solon Springs/Northwood runner Isaac Dickenson, who placed first with a nice run of 16:00. Gavin Stewart of Ladysmith was second with a run of 16:06.
The Beavers next best time in the boy’s competition was a 41st place finish from Bryce McNulty, who ran a 18:57. Unity joins Solon Springs/Northwood in qualifying for the team competition at State.
In the girl’s event, Cameron took first and Chequamegon second to qualify for Team State. Sophomore Greta Weaver ran a personal best 24:36 to lead the Cumberland team with a 34th place finish. Freshman Caylin Schultz followed right behind in 35th place with a time of 24:49. Sophomore Inez Schmidt of Cameron was the day’s top finisher with a time of 19:37.
“I’m very proud of Tommy and our whole team for their efforts all spring and at last Saturday’s Sectional Meet. I’m looking forward to watching Tommy run in Wisconsin Rapids,” said Head Coach Wilbur Rosenow.
