Girl’s Hockey Co-op Season Ends in Crushing Sectional Final Overtime Loss

It came down to overtime, where a power play score by Central Wisconsin’s Gabi Heuser ended the Hayward Co-op’s season and sends the Central Wisconsin Storm to the State Tournament. The two teams had split a pair of regular season contests, as the Hurricanes finish with a final record of 20-6-1.

It was a closely contested contest with Hayward goalie Makenna Hutchison playing extremely well while stopping 30 Central Wisconsin shots on net. Hayward, meanwhile, could only must 16 shots in the game with Reese Duncan getting the team’s lone score in period two. The third period was scoreless.

The Hayward Co-op reached the Sectional Championship game with a thrilling two overtime 4-3 victory over Superior. In that contest, it was the Hurricane’s leading scorer, Reese Sheehan, who found the back of the net to secure the exciting victory. She had two goals and two assist in the contest.

The 5’3 Sheehan is a 4.0 student, has been a First Team All-State player for Hayward the past two seasons, and will be attending UW-Eau Claire next fall.

All in all, it was an extremely successful season for the team. Cumberland Freshman Olivia Holzman-Byrne received limited varsity time and had two assists in varsity action for the Hayward-Co-op.
