The Barron-Cumberland Girl’s Soccer Co-op Splits Opening Pair of Contest
The Barron-Cumberland Girl’s Soccer Co-op defeated Altoona 5-0 and lost to Rice Lake 3-0 in opening play last week. Both games were played at Endeavor Stadium. “We are returning a roster with multiple experienced players to go with several newcomers eager to contribute to the program,” said Coach Sarah Stauner about the opening contests.
Against Altoona, Tinlee Jeffrey posted a shutout in goal, while Valeria Acevedo-Sanchez led the team with two goals. “The defensive line led by returning defenders Adriana Williams and Hailey Fick gave very little room for Altoona to have any sort of offensive threat,” added Stauner.
A strong Rice Lake Team dominated Saturday’s loss as the Barron-Cumberland team battled throughout the afternoon, but could not score. “This game definitely helped us see areas we need to continue to work on as a team,” concluded Stauner.
The team is busy this week with three more games scheduled at Endeavor Stadium. The girls were scheduled to play Northland Pines on Tuesday and then this Thursday and Friday they have home contests scheduled against Baldwin-Woodville and Lakeland Union, with both games starting at 5:00 pm.
