Softball Looks to Learn from Three Losses in Mauston
The Cumberland Softball Team saw their record fall to 2 and 3 on the season with three losses last weekend during play in Mauston. The team is back in action this week, with the Conference opener against Ashland falling on Thursday and a non-conference tilt against Clear Lake this Friday, both scheduled at Islander Park beginning at 5:00 pm.
The Beavers opened their Southern trip with a 11-10 loss to Merrill. Cumberland battled gamely and recorded a two-run sixth inning to tie up the contest only to see the Blue Jays score the winning run in the seventh.
Morgan Monchilovich took the pitching loss for Coach Jess Olson, while Baleigh Stouffer and Raegan Beecroft each recorded a pair of hits offensively. Presli Butzler added a double and Monchilovich a triple, while Kelsey Reidy had a pair of stolen bases in the contest.
Next came a match-up against a strong Prairie du Chien team, which ended in a 14-3 loss. Olivia Villarreal took the pitching loss, with help on the mound from Jayme Bayerle. Cumberland had 10 hits themselves, including two each from Macy Beecroft and Raegan Beecroft. Each team had three errors in the contest.
Cumberland finished-up their trip with a tough 8-7 loss to Marshfield Columbus. Once again, a seventh inning rally by their opponent led to the loss, when Marshfield scored four runs in the last frame to overcome a 7-4 Beavers lead.
Morgan Monchilovich took the pitching loss, but had a great game offensively with three hits, including two triples. Jayme Bayerlye added a pair of runs-batted-in.
“We’ll get better from these losses as we learn to find ways to win games,” added Coach Olson about the weekend’s competition.
