Volleyball Season Ends in Second Round of WIAA Tournament

The Cumberland Volleyball Team saw their season come to an end with a loss in the second round of the Regional Tournament last Thursday in Barron. The Bears would then win the Regional Championship with a convincing victory over Grantsburg on Saturday night. Barron is 32-2 on the season and one of the favorites to win the D3 State Tournament in two weeks.

Cumberland advanced to the Barron game with a 3-1 opening night Tournament victory over Spooner two nights earlier.

“The girls had an amazing night. We really played well together as a team and everyone contributed,” said Head Coach Erin Miller. Senior Melody Taylor had a big night for the home town girls with 17 assists, while Macy Beecroft added a team-high 24 assists and three service aces. Morgan Monchilovich was all over the floor picking up 14 digs, and 11 kills, while Natalie Anderson had 16 assists.

Cumberland played hard against Barron, a team Miller called, “Very talented.” Unfortuntely, the season ended despite a fine effort.

Sophomore Raegan Beecroft played well in the contest, with a service ace and four kills. Seniors Baleigh Stouffer, Macy Beecroft, Melody Taylor, Morgan Monchilovich and Idella Clark were among those putting up some good numbers in the contest with Taylor leading in assists, Macy Beecroft in assists, and Clark in Service aces.

“The girls gave a great effort all fall and were a fun group to be around. I will really miss a great senior group,” concluded Coach Miller.
