Successful Softball Season Comes to an End
The Cumberland Softball Season came to an end last week as they dropped a 6-1 decision to the Spooner Rails in the WIAA Regional Championship game. This came following a first round 11-4 victory over Northwestern two nights earlier. Cumberland finishes the year with a final record of 15 and 12.
The player who caused the most trouble for the Beavers was Spooner pitcher, Annalie Lindgren, who not only went the distance on the mound, scattering five hits and not walking a batter, but was two for two at the plate, including a double.
Hailey Paulson took the pitching loss for Josh Anderson, but gave the team a solid effort, giving up only three earned runs over six innings and accumulating six strikeouts. Cumberland struggled a bit on defense with four errors.
Liliana Murphy had two of Cumberland’s five hits and the team’s lone RBI. It was a nice season for Coach Anderson and his young team, who will look to be a strong contender for next year’s HON crown.
To get into the Spooner game, the Cumberland squad defeated Northwestern two nights earlier. Avery Johnson and Raegan Beecroft had a big-nights at the plate for Coach Anderson with three hits each, while Andi Olson added two safeties. Paulson was the winning pitcher in the victory.
